In this guide, you will learn how to access your cluster email, proxmox, and opnsense accounts and reset your cluster wide password. These services will be critical in recieving information about the cluster, managing instances, and connecting to the cluter via VPN, respectively.
In the next guides, you will setup a VPN connection to the cluster, and learn how to manage your VM instances.
Note: Because all services now use the same authentication, it is extra important that your password is extra secure.
Your cluster username, email (if requested), and an initial password will be sent to your preferred contact method from root@tronnet.net. Ensure that you have all 3 pieces of information before beginning.
It is recommended that users use the Promox Client for instance and account management. The client can be accessed from most browsers with javascript support. The interface allows users to create, delete, and configure VMs or containers. Users can also change their account settings and password. It is not recommended for users to use both the Client and the Proxmox interface as there are issues with cookie persistence.
A much more detailed guide on using the Tronnet Client can be found here.
You are strongly advised to set your password on your first login. After signing in using the inital credentials, users can reset your password by navigating to Account > Password > Change Password (Button)
. User credentials are used for all cluster services.
On the main page below the list of all instances, clicking the Create Instance
button will prompt the user to create a new instance. Depending on the type of instance, the setup instructions will be different. Folllowing the prompts will create a new instance.
In each instance's card, clicking will start an instance and clicking will shutdown an instance.
An instance must be shutdown in order to change configuration. Clicking will bring you to the instance's configuration page. Here, an instance's primary resources such as CPU Cores and Memory can be changed. Virtual disks and expansion cards like GPUs can als be changed.
Cores, Memory, and Swap can be changed by filling out the form fields in the Resources section. After submittting the form, the changes will be applied.
Virtual disks can be configured in the Disks section. Actions for each disk are to the right of the disk's entry. Hovering over each button will describe its action. Attched (mounted) disks can be resized, detached, or moved to another storage. For containers, the mount path can also be changed. Detached (unmounted) disks can be atached or deleted.
Expansion cards using PCIE can be added and removed from VM instances. Like disks, actions are to the right of the disk's entry and hovering over each button will describe its action.
After shutting down an instance, it can be deleted by clicking . After a confirmation prompt, the instance will be destroyed. THIS IS AN IRREVERSIBLE PROCESS!
Users can access their cluster email using the webmail client. Users' email address is <cluster username>@tronnet.net
unless a custom address is requested. The cluster email will be used to communicate important information including VPN information necessary for users to connect to the cluster.
